Sports journalistJob Description The Daily Advance is seeking an energetic and dedicated journalist to cover sports-related news and events in Elizabeth City and surrounding counties. The job will focus on sports features, enterprise reporting and highlighting top athletes and figures. Because we are a small newsroom, the right candidate would also be expected to cover news functions. Hours are flexible, but the job requires working nights and occasionally weekends.

Major Responsibilities:

Develop strong daily content including features, enterprise pieces and event coverage, including photos and videoCultivate sources; recruit and manage contributorsCoordinate print and digital sports sectionsManage special projects involving sportsMeet deadlines and ensure content providers meet schedulesGeneral assignment reporting

Qualifications:

Education:

College degree preferredPrevious experience in journalism, sports writing preferredExcellent knowledge of language, grammar, spelling, punctuation and AP style Ability to communicate and interact effectively both verbally and in writing Submit writing samples with resume and cover letter to Chris Day at cday@apgenc.com.
