Job Description

Reporter The Duplin Times (a division of Adams Publishing Group) is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic journalist to cover news, with a particular emphasis on local sports, across Duplin County. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, have a command of basic news writing and AP style, and be able to produce a variety of compelling but quick stories that cover local sports, including high school, middle school and rec leagues, as well as the occasional news story focusing on local government, events or topics of local interest. We're looking for someone who is tech savvy, can write for the web and social media, and enjoys taking photos. This is a full-time position with a fast-paced but flexible schedule. Job Functions The successful candidate must be motivated, able to work independently and within groups, open to feedback and work well under deadlines. Candidates for this position should have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work in both team and solo environments, and be proactive as well as reactive. Requirements Essential Functions Ability to write and to provide clean copy, to take photos and video, strong organizational skills Must be able to accept instruction and editing suggestions from editors Must be able to work cooperatively with the public Perform job duties and conduct self in accordance with company core values Initiate and nurture effective, professional relationships with internal and external contacts Minimum Requirements Prior reporting/editing experience preferred. Must have reliable transportation. Strong work ethic. Technology Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is helpful. Experience with content development tools like Asana or BLOX would also be helpful. Ability to use Facebook and other social media platforms preferred. Education Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field preferred, but those with reporting experience are also welcome to apply. Entry level candidates will be considered. This is a full-time role, with a fast-paced but flexible schedule, medical/dental/vision options, paid holidays, paid leave and 401(k) match potential.
