Job Description
WFMZ-TV, an award-winning, locally owned television station serving Eastern Pennsylvania and Western New Jersey, is looking for an energetic and passionate Berks Sports Anchor/Reporter to join the 69 News Sports Team. This position is based in our Reading newsroom and is responsible for delivering comprehensive sports coverage throughout Berks County while contributing to WFMZ's overall sports operation across all platforms. The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller who thrives on developing local sports content, building relationships with coaches and athletes, and creating compelling coverage that connects with viewers and digital audiences alike. Responsibilities Anchor sports segments from our Reading newsroom as assigned. Report, shoot, write, and edit sports stories for television, digital, and social media platforms. Cover high school athletics, including football, basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball, soccer, and other local sports. Produce features highlighting local athletes, coaches, and community sports stories. Cover live sporting events, breaking sports news, and championship competitions. Generate enterprise story ideas and cultivate sources throughout Berks County. Contribute to WFMZ.com, the WFMZ App, and social media with timely sports content. Represent WFMZ professionally at community and sporting events. Work collaboratively with the entire Sports and News departments. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field preferred. Previous television sports reporting or anchoring experience is preferred. Exceptional storytelling, writing, and live reporting skills. Experience shooting and editing video is strongly preferred. Strong social media and digital content creation skills. Excellent organizational and time management abilities. Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and flexible hours based on sports schedules and breaking news.
