San Francisco, CA Job Details $23.90 an hour 14 hours ago Qualifications Museum experience Full Job Description SUMMARY The Exploratorium's Museum Rentals Department generates earned income for the museum through the promotion, sales and management of the facility for rental events. The on-call Event Explainers are on the frontlines of the Museum Rentals staff, interacting with Special Event guests during rental events and facilitating guests' interaction with exhibits. They are also responsible for exhibit moves and monitoring the safety of guests and the museum. This on-call position reports to the Museum Rentals Manager.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Event Setup Duties Draw a diagram, mark and photograph exhibits before moves begin Use proper equipment and safe procedures to relocate exhibits in the Exploratorium galleries and other individual exhibits as requested Place ropes and stanchions throughout the museum as requested Turn on exhibits and turn off overhead lights Event Duties Greet visitors Oversee all areas open to the public Initiate informal conversation with museums' visitors about exhibits Conduct demonstrations, assist visitors in using and understanding the exhibits Answer questions about the exhibits and the museum Support other Explainers by filling in as needed and through good, regular communication Identify, troubleshoot, and report malfunctioning exhibits Event Strike Duties Use proper equipment and safe procedures to return exhibits in the Exploratorium galleries and other individual exhibits as requested General Duties Perform light security and crowd control Communicate with all event staff via radio Be prepared to initiate Emergency Response Procedures as needed Other related duties as assignedMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1
year experience as a High School Explainer or 2 months experience as a Field Trip Explainer Experience as an Exploratorium Explainer required Ability to work late nights and weekends Ability and desire to teach guests of all ages in a non-classroom setting Ability to facilitate interaction with exhibits and the scientific principles they demonstrate Understanding of Exploratorium Explainer Demonstrations Outgoing, people person who is good at reading a situation and responding appropriately Able to exercise good judgment (think on your feet)PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

Develops drawings and plans to accommodate the specific space, lighting and temperature requirements of materials to be exhibited; builds or supervises building of exhibits.
