Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Set Builder to join our creative production team. In this role, you will be responsible for transforming conceptual designs into physical, visually compelling facades that bring our immersive space to life. Your expertise in construction, fabrication, and artistic design will be essential in creating immersive environments that captivate audiences and support the overall production vision. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative projects and collaborate with talented artists and designers to create a unique community space for Durango and the Four Corners region. Duties Work with set fabricator through the use of carpentry, woodworking, and hand tools and power tools, ensuring durability and safety standards are met to build facades Assist with painting and finishing set elements using techniques like construction painting and visual arts painting to achieve desired aesthetics. Collaborate on and assist with lighting design plans for various themed spaces. Collaborate closely with art direction, production designers, lighting designers, and other team members to ensure the set aligns with the creative vision. Experience Proven experience in theater production, film set construction, or related fabrication roles involving carpentry, woodworking, and construction painting. Knowledge of lighting design principles, interior design concepts, and production design processes. Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, heavy lifting equipment, and sewing machines safely and effectively. Strong understanding of blueprint reading, technical drawings, and construction safety standards within a theatrical or entertainment environment. Experience with fabricating custom set pieces using various materials including wood, fabric, foam, and metal; plus experience in painting techniques such as commercial painting or artistic finishes.
