A Set or Exhibit Designer designs display booths or exhibits for museums, galleries or trade shows. Develops drawings and plans to accommodate the specific space, lighting and temperature requirements of materials to be exhibited; builds or supervises building of exhibits. Designs stage sets and scenery for performances, primarily for live theater performances, or sets for filmed performances or for events such as press conferences. Works with directors and producers to plan props and materials needed for a show.

Artbarn Community Theater seeks a creative, collaborative Set Designer for three productions in our 2026-2027 season, performed by our 5th & 6th-grade troupe, The Barncats Ensemble. Monty Python's

November 7 & 8, 2026 THE TEMPEST (Original musical adaptation)
February 6 & 7, 2026 ROCK OF AGES Youth Edition
May 22 & 23, 2026 The Set Designer is responsible for the conceptualization, design, and construction of all scenic elements for each production. They will collaborate with the Director and other Designers to ensure that all design elements are cohesive and aligned with the production's vision, and will coordinate with the directing team to establish a timeline that ensures sets arepleted and ready for tech week and performances. We hope to hire a single candidate for all three productions, but we will consider those who are only interested in/available for a portion of the season.
Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will have: A passion for youth theater that is accessible to all experience levels, abilities, and backgrounds.
Experience in set design and construction.
An ability to work creatively with budget and space limitations.
Strong collaborative skills and a desire to create collaboratively.
