Exhibits Technician l Museum Of Life And Science - 4.3 Durham, NC Job Details Full-time $15.90 - $18.70 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications Carpentry Computer operation Guest relations Outdoor work Computer literacy High school diploma or GED Driver's License Productivity software Hand tools Full Job Description The Museum of Life Science is seeking an Exhibits Technician I to support the Museum's mission by keeping all exhibits in functioning order and completing repairs and maintenance to exhibits in a timely manner. This individual will also provide preventative maintenance and cleaning of the exhibits and exhibit environments. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a Sunday-Thursday schedule.

Qualifications Required:

High School diploma. 1-2 years of related experience. Valid driver's license. Knowledge of basic electricity, electronics, repair carpentry and use of hand tools. General skills in computer basics, internet, and MS Office including spreadsheets. Ability to work on assignments that are moderately challenging, requiring some judgement in resolving issues or in making recommendations. Ability to work independently based on moderate to little instruction on daily work and general instructions on newly introduced assignments. Ability to work and communicate well within the Exhibits team and positively engage with staff and guests. Self-motivated. Flexibility to work weekend shifts (one weekend day required) and assist with other projects as needed. Capable of walking continuously; climbing ladders; lifting 50 lbs.; maintaining high mental attention; ability to reach, kneel, crawl, crouch, or bend; working outdoors in changing weather conditions and with standard cleaning and shop chemicals.

Preferred:

Computer repair skills / programming. Shop machinery knowledge. Technical School Education.

Responsibilities:

Perform daily upkeep, maintenance, and cleaning of museum exhibits, for both in and outside exhibit areas, accomplishing repairs to exhibits as necessary to help ensure that the exhibits continuously deliver safe, reliable, and satisfying interaction for our members and other guests. Perform opening and closing functions for outdoor and indoor exhibits as assigned. Opening function includes verifying operation of outdoor kiosks and deploying exhibit devices, refreshing materials, consumables, and/or supplies. Closing function includes removal and safe storage of exhibit devices, materials, consumables and/or supplies; and lock-up of exhibits components as required. Both functions include inspecting exhibits for breakage, failure, or malfunctions as the opening or closing is performed. Organizes and stocks cleaning supplies. Report exhibit outages and collaborate as required to formulate plans for exhibits repair, and act as necessary to bring exhibits back into operation in a timely way. Primary objective is to ensure a reliable and satisfying interaction, in terms of maximized operational uptime of exhibits. Assist with installation of pop-up exhibits. Always demonstrate adherence to Museum safety procedures. Engage with Museum visitors in a positive and helpful way to support an enjoyable and safe guest experience. Prioritize the Museum's values of inclusion and kindness in all interactions with staff, volunteers, and guests. This position reports to the Director of Exhibits. Sunday-Thursday, 8:15am- 5:15pm, 1 hour for lunch
