POSITION SCOPE

The Exhibit Manager will be joining the Alamo Trust's Collections, Curation, Conservation, and Archaeology team at a critical moment in the development of the Alamo Plan. A new Visitor Center and Museum (VCM) will open in 2028. At that time, many artifacts currently on display at the Ralston Family Collections Center (RFCC) will move to the VCM and the RFCC will transition from hosting a long-term exhibition to hosting rotating temporary exhibitions. In addition, Alamo Plaza and the rest of the grounds are being transformed and will require exhibit support. The VCM includes 40,000 square feet of gallery space as well as a few non gallery exhibit areas. The RFCC includes collections storage and 10,000 square feet of gallery space. Additional exhibit spaces include the Alamo grounds and inside the historic Alamo Church and Long Barrack. The Exhibit Manager will be responsible for collaborating with the Director of Curation to establish a temporary exhibition program for the RFCC and serve on all exhibit development teams alongside other relevant staff. This position will require excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills, experience in coordinating the development and implementation of museum exhibits, and an ability to work collaboratively. Among the Exhibit Manager's first tasks will be joining the ATI team to review the production and installation of the new permanent exhibits within the VCM. This role will ensure that ATI has a firm understanding of VCM exhibits and is prepared to take ownership when the consultants and contractors hand them over. The Exhibit Manager will also assist with the exhibition program in the RFCC, providing oversite and managing production chains. The Exhibit Manager will work with ATI's project management partners to coordinate the transfer of artifacts from storage and display at the RFCC to the VCM in preparation for its opening in 2028.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate exhibition production. Oversee the maintenance of exhibits in the Alamo Visitor Center and Museum, Ralston Family Collections Center, and outdoor exhibits and interpretive signage, including coordinating and managing any needed repairs. Maintain a master schedule of exhibit development, fabrication, installation, maintenance, deinstallation, etc., coordinating with ATI staff and external contractors. Logistical support for in-house and hired-out fabrication. Manage contracts with vendors. Review contracts, work orders, designs, and shop drawings for exhibit fabrication. Manage the storage of exhibition materials. Coordinate the installation and deinstallation of exhibitions. Coordinate and execute in-house production, such as mount making, label production, etc. Manage the delegation of exhibit production tasks, drawing on in-house talent and hiring and managing external contract labor. Manage and organize exhibit documents and budget in collaboration with designers, content developers, and curators. Work closely with colleagues to maintain the world-class visitor experience in the Ralston Family Collections Center and the Alamo Visitor Center and Museum.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum 5 to 7 years exhibit development and production experience ideally gained within a cultural heritage institution. Exceptional communication and project management skills. Familiarity with exhibition design and production, fabrication, and AV and interactive technology integration. Experience with architectural design and fabrication shop drawings. Experience with local and national exhibition design and fabrication vendors. A demonstrable commitment to high quality experience design focused on the creation of accessible exhibitions that help visitors connect with the material. An ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Experience working within a multidisciplinary cross-departmental team. B.A. in Museum Studies, Experience Design, or related field
