Job Description

This position supports an upcoming engagement with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Work is performed onsite in Tallahassee, Florida. Employment is contingent upon contract award. Below are some of the responsibilities the Technical Writer may be expected to assume in their position: Produce and edit the written deliverables for an assessment and design engagement comprising twenty seven numbered deliverables and roughly sixty discrete documents Own document templates, styles, and formatting standards across the full deliverable set Edit technical content authored by architects and analysts into a consistent voice, structure, and level of detail Maintain traceability between each document and the scope requirement it satisfies Produce the data user manual, system manuals, reference guides, and educational materials Produce technical guidance documentation for third party software providers Prepare deliverable packages for customer submission and manage revision cycles following customer review comments Maintain document version control across concurrent deliverables Support production of diagrams, tables, and figures within written deliverables
The Must-Haves:
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below. Must currently reside in the US. Must be available to work onsite in Tallahassee, Florida. Must be able to pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background check. Must be able to sign and comply with a customer non-disclosure agreement. Must have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Computer Science, or other related major (Or equivalent work experience) Minimum of 5 or more years of technical writing experience Experience producing technical documentation on a sustained delivery schedule Advanced Microsoft Word skills including styles, templates, cross references, and automatic tables of contents Experience editing content authored by engineers and analysts without losing technical accuracy Experience producing end user manuals, reference guides, and training materials Experience with document version control across a large deliverable set Ability to work from source material including data models, requirements documents, and system designs Detail oriented. Excellent communication skills including written, verbal, and listening. Ability to prioritize and multitask. Proficient in MS Office applications. Experience with online collaboration tools (MS Teams, Zoom, etc.).
Preferred Skills/Experience:
The experience listed below are preferred for this job Experience with government contract deliverables subject to written client acceptance Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility requirements for documents Experience with diagramming tools such as Microsoft Visio or Lucidchart Experience documenting database or data architecture conten Experience with state government or public safety programs Experience with Adobe Acrobat and PDF production GeekSI now covers 100 percent employer contribution toward health insurance premiums for employees and 50 percent for dependents. $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
