Technical Writer Zocalo Recruiting Ann Arbor, MI Job Details 15 hours ago Qualifications Managing projects Full Job Description Technical Writer We are seeking a Technical Writer to create clear, accurate, and well-structured technical documentation for complex scientific and engineering products. This role requires someone who can understand highly technical concepts, work directly with engineers and subject-matter experts, and translate complex information into documentation that is precise and easy to understand. Responsibilities Develop and maintain technical documentation, including product manuals, user guides, installation instructions, specifications, application notes, and other technical materials. Work closely with engineering, product, and technical teams to gather and validate information. Translate complex engineering and scientific concepts into clear, concise documentation for technical and non-technical audiences. Review engineering drawings, specifications, test data, and other source materials to develop accurate documentation. Organize technical information logically and maintain consistency across documentation. Edit and revise existing documentation for clarity, accuracy, grammar, and usability. Manage multiple documentation projects and revisions simultaneously. Ensure documentation stays current as products, designs, and specifications change. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related technical discipline. Strong technical writing and communication skills. Ability to understand and explain complex scientific or engineering concepts. Experience working with engineers, scientists, or other technical subject-matter experts. Strong attention to detail and commitment to technical accuracy. Ability to independently research unfamiliar technical topics and ask the right questions to obtain missing information. Strong organizational and project-management skills. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in technical writing, engineering documentation, scientific writing, or a similar role. Experience documenting physical products, scientific instrumentation, electronics, mechanical systems, materials, or other engineered products. Familiarity with engineering drawings, specifications, schematics, test reports, and technical data. Experience creating documentation for both technical specialists and end users. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate combines an engineering or scientific mindset with exceptional written communication skills . You should be comfortable sitting down with an engineer, understanding how a complex product or technology works, and turning that knowledge into documentation that someone else can immediately understand and use.
