Help create the next issue of Horizon Review, a new local literature & fine arts magazine under the umbrella of the nonprofit organization, FUSION-a local professional theatre and cultural & arts hub. In this position, you will help with the production of the magazine, social media posts, submission review, and event planning. The position is designed as a mentorship, so extensive experience is not required, and training will be provided. However, experience in any of the areas listed below is appreciated. You will learn valuable skills through group workshops and individual work, such as Adobe InDesign, social media marketing, editing, typesetting, printing prep, etc. Horizon Review's mission is to encapsulate local stories, elevate quality art, and educate the rising generation of creative professionals. We are committed to providing opportunities for talent to thrive in our community. We publish a print magazine annually, enriched by the talent of local artists and the professional assistance of UNM students and beginning professionals. We are dedicated to the pursuit of community building and recognition for local artists and professionals.
Responsibilities:
Prepare for the magazine launch in Spring 2027 Work individually (remote) on delegated tasks such as social media marketing, submission review, editing, design, and more Create and submit reports Design social media materials or magazine assets Attend workshops and the required in-person hours for team meetings and coworking sessions Help with various tasks related to the magazine as needed This is a work study eligible position only, and potential candidates must apply through UNM Jobs. Part-time work study hourly position (5-10 hours a week). Minimum Qualifications Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Preferred Qualifications Required Qualifications:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills Independent time management skills Strong copywriting and proofreading skills Willingness to work individually and as part of a group Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively Interest in learning about the roles and tasks related to the production of the magazine Tech savvy Preferred qualifications: Previous experience in marketing, event planning, editing, or publishing Previous experience with Microsoft Suite and Adobe InDesign Strong knowledge of writing conventions and their effectiveness Application Instructions Only applications submitted through the official UNMJobs site will be accepted.
