This role will focus on capturing authentic stories, visually communicating the circumstances individuals have faced, and helping bring those experiences to life through thoughtful filming and editing. The ideal candidate is a strong visual storyteller who can build trust with people on camera, capture authentic interviews and supporting footage, and shape that material into compelling, polished videos. This position will be approximately 50% on-location filming and 50% in-office editing and post-production. Responsibilities Travel throughout Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego to film individuals, interviews, locations, and supporting footage. Conduct documentary-style interviews that feel natural, authentic, and emotionally grounded. Help individuals feel comfortable on camera, particularly when discussing personal, difficult, or sensitive experiences. Capture B-roll, environmental footage, establishing shots, and other visual elements that help fully tell each story. Operate professional cameras, lighting, microphones, and production equipment. Follow established creative direction and production plans for each shoot. Review, organize, and manage footage following each shoot. Edit interviews and supporting footage into clear, compelling documentary-style videos. Shape raw footage into a strong narrative while maintaining the authenticity of each story. Handle color correction, audio cleanup, music, graphics, captions, transitions, and other post-production needs. Create different versions and edits as needed. Maintain organized project files, footage, and media libraries. Incorporate feedback and complete revisions in a timely manner. Maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality when handling sensitive information. Qualifications Professional experience in videography, documentary filmmaking, video editing, journalism, branded storytelling, or a related field. Strong portfolio or demo reel demonstrating interview-based storytelling and editing capabilities. Experience filming interviews and documentary-style content strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of camera operation, lighting, composition, and professional audio recording. Proficiency with professional editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or similar platforms. Strong storytelling instincts and the ability to identify the moments, details, and footage that make a story feel complete. Ability to work independently in the field and collaborate effectively with an internal team. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Comfortable working with individuals discussing emotional, personal, or sensitive situations. Reliable personal transportation is required. This role involves frequent travel to filming locations throughout Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego. Must be dependable and comfortable driving to different filming locations based on the production schedule. Must be available to work in office in Costa Mesa on designated editing and post-production days. Work Environment This is a hybrid field-production and office-based role. Approximately half of the position will involve filming interviews and supporting footage throughout Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego, while the remaining time will be spent in the Costa Mesa office editing, organizing footage, collaborating with the team, and completing post-production. Because filming locations will vary, reliable personal transportation is an essential requirement for this position. Regular regional travel will be required based on filming needs, and approved work-related mileage will be reimbursed. The right candidate will be technically strong behind the camera and in the edit, but just as importantly, will know how to listen, build trust, and tell real human stories with care and impact.
