Professional Writing Specialist City:
West Lafayette Job Summary The college of Liberal Arts is seeking a Professional Writing Specialist to join the Purdue OWL https://owl.purdue.edu/ . The Professional Writing Specialist will provide one-to-one or small group writing consultations to campus writers, primarily undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty.
What You'll Be Doing:
Using a collaborative, dialogic approach. Consultations will focus on planning ,drafting, revising, editing, and self-assessing. Facilitate clients understanding of rhetorical, genre, language, and document conventions. Develop, facilitate, promote, and assess writing workshops, whether focused on general audiences, on a variety of common topics, or targeted to specific disciplines or courses. Develop, research, assess website content related to writing.
What We're Looking For:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in English, Writing, Rhetoric & Composition, Curriculum & Instruction, or related fields. Two years of experience mentoring writers in a writing center/student support/learning commons or related experience.
Skills Needed:
Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with individuals from different viewpoints and backgrounds and teamwork in daily work activity. Experience with major word processing programs. Ability to model improvisational as well as "best practices" around issues that arise when assisting writers. Ability to understand the challenges and issues facing novice and expert writers. Understanding of rhetorical, genre, language, and document conventions. What is
