Job Description

We're looking for someone who's already a proven leader who knows how to run a shop, move cars, close repair orders, and build a team that performs. If that's you, keep reading. PNW Automotive is Astoria's premier independent auto repair shop, specializing in European, Asian, luxury, hybrid, and EV vehicles. We're women/veteran-owned, backed by ASE-certified technicians with 60+ years of combined experience, and we hold ourselves to a standard many shops can't touch. We offer an industry-leading 3-Year/36,000-Mile local warranty and nationwide coverage — because we stand behind every repair we make. We're growing, and we need a Service Manager/Writer who can step in, take ownership, and help us hit — and hold — that next level. This role is the backbone of the shop. You'll manage the team, drive sales, keep workflow tight, and make sure every customer leaves a raving fan.
THE ROLE
The Service Manager/Writer is the keeper of our standards and the engine that keeps everything running. You'll report directly to the owner and be responsible for day-to-day shop operations, team leadership, sales performance, and customer experience. You'll work alongside skilled technicians in a fast-paced environment that demands focus, urgency, and pride in the work.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
Team Leadership:
Lead, coach, and hold the team accountable to performance standards, company values, and daily expectations. Clear direction, consistent follow-through.
Shop Workflow:
Keep workflow moving efficiently from intake to delivery using our workflow systems, and real-time dispatching. Bottlenecks don't survive on your watch.
Sales Performance:
Present repair recommendations with confidence and close. Hit daily ARO targets. Help the shop reach and maintain revenue goals.
Customer Experience:
Handle complaints and negative feedback head-on, resolve issues before they escalate, and coach staff to deliver the kind of service that our customers have come to expect.
Cost Management:
Keep an eye on costs without sacrificing quality. Look for efficiencies. Run a tight operation.
Administrative:
Assist with payroll, scheduling, and HR documentation in partnership with the owner. Know your team, know their numbers.
Hands-On Culture:
No task is beneath you. If the shop needs it, you handle it — or make sure it gets handled.
WHAT WE REQUIRE
This role is for experienced professionals only. Please do not apply if you're looking for on-the-job training for a management role. 2+ years in a management or supervisory role — automotive service environment strongly preferred 1+ years in a direct sales role, or a track record that clearly demonstrates your ability to present recommendations comfortably Hands-on experience with shop management software Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced, high-interruption environment without losing your cool or your focus Strong written and verbal communication skills — you can write a professional email, handle a difficult customer conversation, and give clear direction to your team Comfortable with basic computer use: Windows OS, email, spreadsheets, typing/dictating 40+ WPM Physically able to get in and out of a variety of vehicles and drive customers or vehicles as needed A standards-setter, not a corner-cutter — you hold yourself and others to a high bar, every day
