Part-Time Writer The Grundy Register & Butler County Eclipse - Grundy Center & Parkersburg, Iowa (Partially Remote) Owned by Nelson Media Company Overview The Grundy Register and Butler County Eclipse , two trusted community newspapers serving Grundy and Butler counties, are seeking a Part-Time Writer to help cover local news and events. This is a great opportunity for someone passionate about local journalism and storytelling. You will play a key role in keeping our communities informed by covering local government, schools, and community happenings. Writers should expect to contribute 3-5 articles per week . Key Responsibilities Attend and report on city council and school board meetings, local celebrations, and public events. Produce 4-5 well-written articles per week for both print and digital platforms. Conduct interviews with public officials, educators, community leaders, and residents. Ensure accuracy and clarity through careful research and fact-checking. Work collaboratively with editors and teammates to align with publication standards. Edit and proof your own work before submission. Submit articles on a consistent weekly schedule, meeting all deadlines. Qualifications Demonstrated writing or journalism experience; a portfolio of work is preferred. Strong grammar, punctuation, and proofreading skills. Ability to cover local events in Grundy and Butler counties (evenings and occasional weekends as needed). Comfortable working both remotely and in the field. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Passion for community journalism and storytelling.
