Our mission is to connect a diverse community of families with the support and resources designed to solve the challenges of parenting in Chicago. Job Purpose Come join a supportive, hard-working team dedicated to bringing resources to their fellow parents in Chicago. The newsletter writer is responsible for planning, writing, and sending the NPN Weekly, an email newsletter that goes out every Friday. The person in this role is also responsible for adapting a portion of the newsletter into articles to be published on the NPN website every week. We seek a strong writer to join our dynamic team! The NPN Writer is responsible for identifying, reaching out to, and interviewing these experts, and transcribing the interview for the newsletter. Each interview covers two newsletter issues, with 2-3 questions per newsletter.

Organized, able to work both independently and as part of a team, and familiar with the needs of new and experienced parents Familiar with the needs of parents of children with developmental differences Internally motivated to build relationships with and celebrate all types of Chicago families including but not limited to families with one parent, families of children with developmental differences, new parents, experienced parents, LGBTQIA+ parents and children, and families across all income brackets, races, and religions. Comfortable reaching out to and interviewing professional experts in the parenting profession Job Duties and Responsibilities Work with NPN leadership to develop robust content plan for the newsletter Research current parenting topics and trends, local family or parent-related events for inclusion in the newsletter. Identify local Chicago parenting experts such as medical and mental-health professionals, child development experts, educational experts, etc. and interview them for the "Ask an Expert" section of the newsletter; conduct the interviews for inclusion in the newsletter. Working closely with NPN's Director of Advertising, ensure the advertisements in each newsletter are correct. Working closely with the Executive Director, include relevant NPN topics/graphics in the newsletter. Identify and select images that connect with the content, following copyright laws. Create graphics for the newsletter using Canva as-needed, following NPN guidelines. Help with other assigned duties, as time allows. Other Monitor work for quality control requirements and performance metrics Manage appropriate technology functions in collaboration with NPN technology team Participate in regular check-in meetings with Executive Director Agree to schedule/attend calls and meetings between the hours of 9am and 3pm Required Qualifications Excellent writing skills and interpersonal skills. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Ability to attend one NPN event each quarter to maintain a familiarity with NPN's membership and culture Ability to travel throughout the city of Chicago as needed. Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to address changing priorities with enthusiasm. Must have own laptop to use for day-to-day work. However, core work hours are 9am - 3pm Monday through Friday. We ask all staff to be available to schedule phone calls and meetings within that time frame.
