Design Manager - Data CentersConfidential Tier‑1 Construction ContractorCompensationBase salary: $175,000 - $225,000, dependent on experience, skills, and location Comprehensive benefits and retirement programme includedLocationThis role can be based from one of the following offices: Arlington, VA | Baltimore, MD | Columbus, OH | Charlotte, NC | Richmond, VAThe OpportunityI am representing a leading, privately owned construction contractor in the appointment of an experienced Design Manager to support the delivery of complex data center projects. This position offers involvement across preconstruction, design development, and construction execution, working within advanced delivery models such as Design‑Build, IPD, P3, and EPC.The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in aligning design intent with cost, schedule, constructability, and risk management.

Role OverviewThe Design Manager will lead coordination between design consultants, trade partners, and construction teams to ensure design solutions are complete, coordinated, and execution‑ready. The role spans early pursuit through delivery, with a strong emphasis on design-to-budget, risk mitigation, and integration with construction operations.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead design coordination during preconstruction and proposal phasesDefine design scope, consultant engagement, deliverables, and schedulesSupport estimating, procurement, and subcontractor scope developmentOversee design development to ensure alignment with budget, programme, and constructabilityManage design changes, RFIs, and risk assessmentsCoordinate closely with VDC/BIM teamsSupport construction teams with design intent clarification and issue resolutionEnsure compliance with quality, regulatory, and contractual requirementsCandidate ProfileBachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related disciplineMinimum 10 years' experience in design or project management on large-scale construction projectsProven experience with advanced delivery models (Design‑Build, IPD, P3, EPC)Strong understanding of constructability, design-to-budget, and risk managementExcellent communication, coordination, and leadership skills
