School Year Position Summary:
Teach the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) Design course according to the IB Mission, Vision, Philosophies, and Standards and Practices.
Essential Functions:
Collaborate, plan and teach the IBO framework of concepts within contexts and inquiry-based learning that is balanced with specific skills of 'how to learn,' leading learning toward the IB vision and the aims of individual subject areas. Challenge and support all students to: Apply practical and creative thinking skills to solve design problems. Explore the role of design in both historical and contemporary contexts. Consider their responsibilities when making design decisions and taking action. Use the design cycle as a way to structure: Inquiry and analysis of design problems. Development and creation of feasible solutions. Testing and evaluation of students' models, prototypes, products and systems. Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction. Prepare appropriate instructional aids and display materials to enhance learning. Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning, and modify instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs. Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field, especially IB, by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships with members of the business and education communities. Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by IB Standards and Practices, district procedures and applicable laws. Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents. Ensure that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Coordinate with other professional staff members and participates in faculty meetings and committees as assigned.
Qualifications:
State Certification as required for position. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels. Teaching experience in multiple subject areas preferred. IB MYP training and experience preferred.
Equipment:
Use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Working Conditions :
Work in standard office and school building environments. Must be able to work regular scheduled hours. Must be able to handle stress.
