Job Description

1.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS
a. Work involves providing security and care to incarcerated individuals, ensuring inmate safety, enforcing rules and regulations, maintaining order, escorting inmates, and supervising various inmate activities. Work also involves providing input into the treatment of individual inmates and the correctional facility population in general through reporting observations to counseling, medical and supervisory staff. 2.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise inmate activities including recreation, video visits, telephone calls, educational or religious activities, meals, and related activities of daily living. Provide inmates with necessary housing articles such as bedding, toilet items, and linens. Complete oral and written reports as required. Prevent and control volatile situations among inmates. Conduct inmate checks, searches and shakedowns for contraband control. Escort inmates outside of the facility to schedule medical or legal appointments. Listen to inmate's questions and/or grievances and resolve or refer problems/issues to appropriate staff. Dispense medications at the direction of medical staff Document inmate activities and relevant incidents Conduct booking and release process 3.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Ability to read, understand, and learn to describe details accurately and completely in written form. Ability to perform computer data entry and word processing Ability to observe and assess inmate behavior for signs of potential suicide, riot, and/or other violent behavior. Ability to respond to medical and life threatening emergencies Ability to effectively communicate with outside agencies, inmates, attorneys, co-workers, and the public in a cooperative and professional manner. Ability to learn to respond quickly and effectively to situations which threatens the security of the facility. Ability to learn and employ effective self-defense methods. 4.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
a. 19 years of age b. U.S. citizen c. Good physical condition including but not limited to driving, lifting, physical use of force, bending, etc. d. High school diploma or a GED e. No felony or serious misdemeanor convictions f. Possess a valid Operators license g. Officers are required to remain physically fit without medical conditions that pose a threat to oneself or others.. h. Must complete and pass or have current certifications in defensive tactics, CPR, AED and first aid training. i. Be able to complete and pass Correction Officer academy within 1 year of employment. j. Willing to work various shifts including weekends, nights, holidays. k. Be able to pass a pre-employment drug test. 5.
