LLC Position Type:
Full-Time; Monday - Friday and some Saturdays Jim Smith Contracting is seeking a skilled and experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our dynamic team working Monday through Friday and a lot of Saturdays Job may require longer hours during peak months of construction. In this role, you will perform diagnostic testing, repairs and preventative maintenance on heavy machinery including but not limited to tri-axle dump trucks. Our ideal candidate is someone who brings expertise in mechanics, a keen eye for detail, and a strong commitment to safety and efficiency. This is a safety sensitive position. Jim Smith Contracting is a drug free workplace and we have a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy.
Key Responsibilities:
Preventative Maintenance:
Perform routine maintenance (lube, oil, filter changes) on heavy equipment to minimize downtime.
Diagnostics & Repair:
Diagnose mechanical issues and perform repairs on engines, transmissions, braking, and hydraulic systems.
Field Support:
Work in construction site environments, often on uneven terrain, to repair heavy equipment (excavators, loaders, dozers).
Documentation:
Maintain accurate, detailed records of repairs and services performed.
Safety Compliance:
Adhere strictly to company, DOT and OSHA safety policies, including proper handling of materials and working around moving equipment Stay updated with the latest developments in heavy equipment technology and repair techniques. Assist in maintaining an organized, clean, and safe work environment.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in diesel mechanics or related field preferred. Proven experience as a diesel mechanic or in a similar role. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electronics relevant to heavy equipment. Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently. Physical ability to perform manual work, including lifting heavy parts and equipment. Valid CDL driver's license, with a clean driving record. Strong communication skills and ability to work alone and as part of a team.

Must be able to stand, kneel and crouch for extended periods while working on/in equipment Climb in and out of equipment
