NATURE AND SCOPE
The Director of Curriculum and Instruction oversees the ongoing planning, implementation, development, direction, review and evaluation of the district's curriculum and instructional practices, federal programs, assessment, research and evaluation services. The Director ensures that the district's education objectives are aligned to state frameworks and to instructional practices that yield instructional excellence, student achievement, and continuous growth and learning.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develops, in collaboration with the Superintendent and Leadership Team, the vision for the district's curriculum implementation/review process and professional development in all academic and special subjects and for English learners.
  • Partners with faculty and staff members to determine curricular needs and brainstorms with them to meet those needs through resource acquisition and professional development.
  • Plans, leads, and provides professional development for all administrators and faculty and staff members.
  • Builds internal (for example, with faculty and staff members) and external partnerships (for example, the parent community, town leaders, and other school districts) that support district goals and enhance student learning.
  • Solves problems and resolves questions and concerns professionally, tactfully, and thoroughly.
  • Reports periodically to the School Committee on all matters relating to curriculum and instruction as directed by the Superintendent.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Technology to integrate innovative resources into learning environments, the Director of Student Services to support students with special learning needs, the Business Manager to prepare grant applications and pursue funding resources, the Principals to supervise teaching staff and support the learning of all students, and partner school districts on curriculum, professional development, social/emotional learning, and other related issues.
  • Plans and leads the New Teacher Orientation and mentoring processes.
  • Monitors education laws and regulations and remains current with research on best pedagogic practices.
  • Supervises the administration of MCAS and other state and local assessments, analyzes performance data, and makes recommendations for continuous growth and learning.
  • Develops and implements federal and state aid programs including but not limited to Title I, Title IIA and Title IID.
  • Performs other duties at the direction of the Superintendent.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Posses or Eligible for Massachusetts Director or Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent license.
  • Graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Education Administration, and/or comparable field.
  • Teaching experience at the elementary level.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, & SKILL
  • Detailed knowledge of best teaching practices; the dynamic relationships among curriculum, instruction, and assessment; and best practices in student and adult learning.
  • Ability to establish, articulate, garner support for, and achieve a long-range vision for curriculum, pedagogy, and professional learning in the district in all grades and subjects.
  • Ability to demonstrate and coach others on the performance standards set forth in the WPS teaching rubric and research-based best practices.
  • Knowledge of all Massachusetts' Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues in meetings and in classrooms.
  • Ability to work under time constraints and meet deadlines.
  • Technological proficiency in communicating and learning.
  • Experience using G Suite for Education tools.
JOB ENVIRONMENT
Wrentham is a high-performing elementary (pre-K through grade 6) school district with high expectations. The Director of Curriculum and Instruction is part of a collaborative district leadership team. The physical requirements of this job include the ability to travel to multiple classrooms and professional development spaces across the two buildings located on the same campus with occasional trips to other school districts/meeting locations.
