Enso Village is a collaborative endeavor between the Kendal Corporation—an esteemed, nationally recognized leader in senior living guided by the Quaker values of its founders—and the San Francisco Zen Center, one of the first Zen Buddhist organizations in the US, founded by Shunryu Suzuki Roshi. The Role The Director of Operations is responsible for providing operational leadership and oversight for Facilities, Nourishment, and Health & Wellbeing services across the community, including Assisted Living and Memory Care operations, in accordance with California Title 22 regulations and community standards. This role works closely in partnership with the RCFE Administrator, Director of Facilities, and Director of Nourishment to ensure regulatory compliance, operational excellence, resident safety, quality assurance, emergency preparedness, and high-quality service delivery throughout the community. The Director of Operations provides leadership support and operational coordination across departments to promote efficient operations, interdisciplinary collaboration, strong communication, and a consistent resident-centered approach aligned with Enso Village values, mission and Guiding Principles. Responsibilities include oversight of operational systems, regulatory readiness, life safety compliance, environmental services coordination, vendor management, staffing support, quality improvement initiatives, operational budgeting, and campus-wide operational continuity. This position serves as a key operational leader within the community and partners with organizational leadership on strategic planning, operational priorities, compliance initiatives, and organizational effectiveness within a California CCRC environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Regulatory & Operational Oversight Maintains operational oversight of Assisted Living and Memory Care services in accordance with California Title 22 regulations and community standards. Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and licensing requirements related to RCFE operations and resident care services. Maintains current knowledge of California Title 22 regulations, DSS requirements, health and safety standards, and evolving senior living regulatory requirements. Serves as a key operational contact during licensing visits, surveys, inspections, and regulatory reviews. Oversees survey readiness activities, regulatory audits, complaint investigations, plans of correction, and ongoing compliance monitoring. Ensures required resident records, assessments, care plans, incident reports, and operational documentation are maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements. Oversees compliance with resident rights, medication management requirements, dementia care regulations, emergency preparedness standards, infection prevention practices, and safety protocols. Ensures required regulatory reporting is completed timely and accurately. Oversees compliance related to staff training requirements. Ensures operational policies, procedures, and practices align with applicable RCFE regulations and community standards . Operational Leadership Health & Wellbeing Operations Oversight Oversees Health & Wellbeing services supporting Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care residents. Partners closely with the RCFE Administrator and operational leaders to support coordinated resident services, quality outcomes, compliance, and care plan implementation. Ensures resident services are delivered in alignment with person-centered care principles, operational standards, regulatory requirements, Enso Village Values and Guiding Principles. Promotes resident dignity, independence, choice, safety, purpose, and quality of life throughout all levels of care. Responds to resident concerns, operational challenges, and service recovery needs in a timely and professional manner. Encourages interdisciplinary collaboration to support residents' physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and spiritual wellbeing. Facilities & Environmental Operations Oversight Oversees the Facilities Department and ensures safe, compliant, efficient, and well-maintained campus operations. Ensures compliance with life safety standards, emergency preparedness requirements, environmental safety standards, and operational readiness expectations. Oversees preventative maintenance programs, vendor services, infrastructure projects, operational contracts, and work order systems. Partners with Facilities leadership to develop and maintain emergency preparedness plans, disaster response protocols, and operational continuity procedures. Supports sustainability initiatives and environmentally responsible operational practices consistent with Enso Village values and commitments. Assists with capital improvement planning and campus operational improvement projects. Nourishment Operations Oversight Provides operational oversight and support for Nourishment operations across the community. Partners closely with the Director of Nourishment to support dining quality, operational consistency, sanitation compliance, staffing coordination, resident satisfaction, and hospitality standards. Supports compliance with applicable health department regulations, food safety standards, and operational best practices. Encourages collaboration between Nourishment and other operational departments to support a positive resident experience and service excellence. Quality Assurance, Safety & Risk Management Serves as a leader in quality assurance, compliance, resident safety, emergency preparedness, and risk management initiatives. Participates in and supports organizational committees including Safety Committee, Risk Management Committee, Infection Prevention, Emergency Preparedness, Quality Assurance, and Performance Improvement activities. Ensures compliance with OSHA requirements, DSS regulations, HIPAA standards, infection prevention practices, and workplace safety standards. Identifies operational risks and develops proactive solutions to support resident safety, regulatory compliance, and operational effectiveness. Supports investigations, incident reviews, corrective action planning, and follow-up activities as needed. Promotes a culture of continuous improvement and operational accountability throughout the organization. Financial & Operational Management Supports operational budgeting, financial stewardship, resource planning, and expense management initiatives. Protects organizational resources by promoting operational efficiency, accountability, and effective utilization of staffing, materials, and services. Monitors operational performance metrics, service standards, compliance indicators, resident satisfaction outcomes, and departmental goals. Partners with Finance and operational leaders regarding procurement activities, vendor management, operational forecasting, and budget adherence. Utilizes operational data and reporting tools to identify trends, opportunities, and process improvements. Leadership & Team Development Provides leadership, mentorship, coaching, accountability, and operational support to department leaders, managers, and supervisors. Promotes teamwork by fostering a culture where accountability, collaboration, participation, learning, and professional growth are encouraged. Supports employee engagement, retention, leadership development, communication, and organizational culture initiatives. Partners with Human Resources regarding recruitment, staffing, employee relations, corrective action, performance management, and organizational development efforts. Encourages ongoing education, professional development, and operational excellence across departments. Community Relations & Organizational Representation Promotes a positive image of Enso Village through professional interactions, community involvement, and participation in industry organizations and events. Maintains productive relationships with external organizations, community agencies, vendors, and operational partners. Participates in organizational committees, leadership meetings, and Board presentations or initiatives as assigned. Works collaboratively with Kendal-affiliated leaders and operational partners as resources and supports. Position Requirements Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, public administration, business administration, nursing, gerontology, hospitality management, or related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered. Current California RCFE Administrator Certification required or the ability to successfully obtain certification within six (6) months of hire. Minimum of five (5) years of operations leadership experience in Senior Living, CCRC, Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living, Memory Care, healthcare, or related environment required. Demonstrated knowledge of California Title 22 regulations, DSS requirements, resident rights, dementia care regulations, and long-term care operational standards required. Experience overseeing multi-department operations including Facilities, Health & Wellbeing, Dining/Nourishment, or related operational services preferred. Strong leadership, operational, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills required. Experience with budgeting, vendor management, regulatory compliance, operational reporting, and performance metrics preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, electronic health records, and operational software systems required. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Compensation and Benefits:
Enso Village is committed to equal pay and transparency. The annual base salary range for this position is $175,000 to $215,000. This range provided as a general guideline and compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, external non-profit market data, and business considerations.
