Situated at the intersection of I-93 and I-95, Stoneham provides convenient access to Boston and the North Shore, known for the Stone Zoo, and extensive access to the 2,500-acre Middlesex Fells Reservation. Stoneham currently is seeking to fill an upcoming opening for the full-time position of Director of Public Works. The Director of Public Works is regarded as a highly responsible leadership position reporting to the Town Administrator. The Director performs senior‑level management, administrative, supervisory, and technical work in planning, directing, and managing all operations of the Department of Public Works. Key Responsibilities
  • Represents, interacts, and negotiates on behalf of the department at meetings within and outside the Town
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with municipal, regional, state, and federal officials and agencies
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and consent decrees
  • Leads crisis management efforts and develops solutions to emergencies involving infrastructure failures, weather events, and other unplanned incidents
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Public Administration in related field, 7-10 years related experience, and/or combination of education and experience.
  • Strong administrative, finance(budget preparation & oversight) and communication skills
  • Registered Professional Engineer preferred
  • GIS/Wetlands Protection Act enforcement experience preferred.
  • MA Drinking Water Supply Operator D-3 preferred
  • Valid MA Driving License.
