POSITION OVERVIEW
The Pickerington Local School District seeks qualified applicants for a Director of Student Support Services and Special Education. Candidates must have strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
JOB GOAL
To direct and manage the district's special education and student support programs in a manner that ensures full legal compliance, fiscal responsibility, and the delivery of transformative educational services that meet the unique needs of every student.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Valid certificate/license as an administrator with preference given to those with successful administrative experience, or experiences deemed commensurate with roles and responsibilities. Minimum of five years experience in education with a background in Special Education and/or Student Services. Any additional qualifications, training or other credentials, as determined by the Board of Education.

Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret information relevant to the position, including being able to speak effectively to small and large groups of people, and to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
Leadership Ability:
Must be able to articulate a vision and mission for the district and provide the appropriate direction, guidance, and management skills to achieve them.
Reasoning Ability:
Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Technology Skills:
Able to effectively use, as it applies to your specific job function, typical office applications and computer programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Directs the daily operations of special education and student support programs, ensuring they align with the vision set by the Executive Director. Assists Exec Director in establishing systematic processes and procedures for spec ed department to build a more cohesive program. Coordinates with the Welcome Center and community agencies to ensure educational stability, reporting progress and barriers to the Executive Director. Serves as the District's Compliance Officer for IDEA, Section 504, and ADA, ensuring all IEP/LRE processes and child identification meet legal mandates. Manages the technical aspects of the Title VI-B grant, including data collection and expenditure tracking, for review and approval by the Executive Director. Oversees the maintenance of cumulative records and ensures the district is "audit-ready" at all times. Coordinates the completion of state and federal reports, applications, and inspections, ensuring accuracy before final submission by the Executive Director or Superintendent. Assists the Executive Director and Human Resources in the recruitment and selection of special education and health staff. Conducts staff evaluations as assigned, specifically focusing on the instructional and clinical quality of special education teachers and related service providers, such as SLPs, OTs, PTs, BCBAs. Assists the Exec Dir in designing and delivering professional learning for staff on inclusive practices, culturally responsive programming, and legal compliance. Acts as the first point of escalation for parents, school personnel, and community members regarding special education disputes or program concerns. Consults with the Educational Service Center (ESC) regarding the performance of assigned personnel and the coordination of preschool services. Serves as the hearing officer for suspension appeals as delegated by the Executive Director or Superintendent.
