Position Summary:
The Director of Student Transportion is responsible for the strategic leadership and operational management of all school transportation services. This includes oversight of daily transportation operations, vendor relationships, route logistics, safety compliance, budgeting, and customer service. The Director ensures the safe, efficient, and reliable transport of students, while fostering strong partnerships with families, school leadership, and transportation vendors.Specific Duties Include:
Provide overall leadership and direction for the student transportation program across all divisions and campuses. Develop and manage transportation strategy, policies, and procedures to support student safety, operational excellence, and cost efficiency. Supervise and support a team of transportation professionals, including associate directors. Serve as the primary liaison with contracted transportation vendors; monitor performance to ensure compliance with service standards, safety regulations, and contractual obligations. Oversee route planning, optimization, and scheduling to meet academic, co-curricular, and extracurricular transportation needs, including athletics and field trips. Ensure adherence to all local, state, and federal transportation laws and regulations, including vehicle inspections, driver qualifications, and student supervision requirements. Develop and manage the transportation budget, including forecasting, procurement, cost analysis, and billing reconciliation. Establish and maintain proactive communication channels with parents, guardians, school leadership, and faculty to address concerns, changes, and updates in a timely and professional manner. Maintain and enhance the use of transportation technology systems for routing, communication, and data reporting. Lead transportation planning for emergency scenarios, inclement weather, evacuations, and contingency operations. Monitor and evaluate department performance to optimize safety, timeliness, and customer satisfaction. Stay current on best practices in student transportation, school logistics, and risk management. Complete other duties as assigned.Required Skills:
Strong leadership, project management, and organizational skills Ability to think strategically while also managing day-to-day operational details Excellent written and verbal communication and conflict resolution skills Knowledge of safety regulations, risk management, and incident response protocols Strong customer service orientation with an empathetic, solution-focused approach Capacity to work collaboratively across departments and with external partnersMinimum Job Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in business administration, logistics, transportation, or a related field (Master's degree preferred) Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in transportation, operations, or logistics, with at least 3 years in a leadership role Experience in a school or campus-based setting preferred Must possess a valid Georgia CDL (Commercial Drivers License) Class B with P (Passenger) and S (School Bus) endorsements preferred The Director of Student Transportation position is an exempt, 12-month position.
