Job Description
Summary Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of the dredge department's equipment and other related work as required. Supervision Works under the general direction of the Dredge Superintendent. Receives oral instructions concerning specific projects and general suggestions on assignments. Judgements associated with major equipment faults are referred to the Dredge Superintendent. Performs varied and highly responsible duties, requiring judgment in conducting work, independently making technical judgments concerning maintenance and repair assignments. Essential Functions The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position. Responsible for the daily operational readiness of the dredge department's floating and shore-based equipment which includes: Cutter Suction Dredges, 25' push boats, multiple Carolina 23' skiffs with outboards, a 2023 front-end loader, skid steer, excavator, and all support equipment (compressor, welder, hand held tools, etc.). Provides routine maintenance and troubleshoots equipment problems; ensures essential equipment is operational to avoid down-time and loss of production. Maintains and repairs hydraulic systems onboard the dredges and pushboats. Undertakes welding and fabrication as needed; engages in welding of existing structures, and fabrication of new equipment. Operates various heavy equipment such as front-end loader, excavator and skid steer. Develops and maintains an up-to-date spare parts inventory using Microsoft Excel. Purchasing duties may be required for the ordering of spare parts and other related equipment. Performs similar or other related work as required, directed or as situations dictates. Excellentcommunication skills are essential, both verbal and written. The work requires an individual that works well as a member of a team worker, not as an individual contributor. Proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel is a plus.
- Must be able to travel to each project site using department vehicles that are located on Cape Cod.
- Must be able to work on Saturdays as needed (with overtime during the dredge season - September through May).
- Must be able to tolerate conditions on the water, vibrations, heat, confined spaces, and high noise levels.

Required Licensing/Certification:
Must have a valid Driver's License, and reliable transportation to and from the department's yard located in Dennis, MA. Ability to acquire a hydraulic license (Class 2A) within first year of employment. Job Environment Work is performed outdoors with risk of exposure to loud noise and outdoor weather conditions (rain, fog, wind), extremes of temperatures, and risks associated with water, rivers and bays, as well as exposure to dangerous equipment. Risk of injury from occupational hazards of heavy equipment and hydraulics and a marine environment. Work fluctuates seasonally; work normally takes place from September to May; expected to work long hours, evenings and weekends to achieve seasonal goals. Operates hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, light trucks, heavy equipment and light equipment. Uses equipment, such as torch, welding equipment, overhead hoists, navigational equipment, pumps, skiff with outboard motor, lines, and winches and other related equipment. Errors in performing responsibilities could result in personal injury, injury to others, damage to equipment, and delay or loss of service. Physical Requirements The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Required to walk, sit and stand for long periods and reach with arms. Frequently required to lift more than 30 pounds, and occasionally required to lift more than 100 pounds.
