DSP (Direct Support Professional) - Day Services Program

Job Title:

Direct Support Professional Overview:

Assists day program staff with activity planning, supervision, setting and achieving goals of adults with special needs and disabilities in a job training setting; assists in presenting and reinforcing learning concepts and life skills.

Responsibilities:

1. Provides support to the consumers to ensure a safe and stimulating environment. 2. Assists the staff in planning and preparation for daily activities, aids instructional efforts, supervision of consumers on outings and events. 3. Assists the staff in preparing lessons and activities, planning outings in the community, and curricula in assigned areas. 4. Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids for consumer use in attaining goals, including activity sheets, outings, and hands on activities. 5. Presents subject matter to consumers, under the guidance of the Floor Supervisor, utilizing a variety of methods including but not limited to, stories, discussions, and hands on activities. 6. Leads goal reaching activities; will confer with interdisciplinary team members on consumer's progress on a as needed, at least quarterly basis. 7. Assists consumers, individually or in groups, with goal assignments to present or reinforce making choices and achieving goals. 8. May lead, guide, and train staff and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation. 9. Prepares Daily, weekly and monthly reports. 10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
