Provides an educational Special Day Class program for learning handicapped pupils encompassing basic school subjects, social competence, and vocational preparation.ADMINISTRATIVE RELATIONSHIP
Under the immediate direction of the site administrator with staff assistance and input from the Student Services Department and the Special Education Department.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Teaches one or more subjects on a level commensurate with the emotional, physical, and intellectual needs of the pupil and writes the Individualized Education Program (IEP) in cooperation with School Individualized Education Program Team (SIEPT) and/or District Individualized Education Program Team (DIEPT). 2. Counsels individuals and groups of pupils on educational, occupational, and personal problems. 3. Works cooperatively with classroom teachers who have learning handicapped pupils in regular classes to find materials for these pupils; interprets the abilities and disabilities of the learning handicapped pupils to the entire staff. 4. Confers frequently with parents and professional staff members regarding the educational, social and personal problem characteristic of the learning handicapped pupil. 5. Assists the learning handicapped pupil in making realistic assessment o his abilities and in establishing educational and occupational goals in keeping with these abilities. 6. Provides motivation, through a constantly varying approach, to pupils who have a short attention span and who have extreme difficulty in working independently. 7. Works with district committee in the admission, placement and evaluation of pupils in classes for the learning handicapped. 8. Coordinates and supervises work experience and on-the-job training programs involving the learning handicapped pupils if the school has such programs. 9. Assists other professional staff members in resolving the unique psychological and/or disciplinary problems of the learning handicapped pupil as related to his frequent experiencing of failure. 10. Undertakes continuing professional study in the psychology of the learning handicapped pupil and in teaching methods related of this field. 11. Helps parents to understand and accept the problem of learning handicaps. 12. Performs all of the duties of the regular classroom teacher. 13. Complies with State Education Code and District Board Policy. 14. Maintains special education file folders for each student according to state and district policy. 15. Select and requisition books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies and maintain required inventory records. 16. Performs other duties as assigned.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
