TITLE Adult Basic Education (ABE) Instructor

DESCRIPTION
Are you passionate about empowering adult learners to achieve their educational and career goals? Tohono O'odham Community College (TOCC) seeks a dedicated and skilled Full-Time, ABE Instructor, in this time-limited (grant funded) position to teach essential competencies and guide students toward obtaining their GED in a tribal community college setting. You'll play a vital role in supporting the College's mission within the Workforce and Community Development Department.
Starting Salary:
Up to $60,000
What You'll Do:
As an ABE Instructor, you will be responsible for creating a supportive and effective environment for student learning across various locations.
Your key duties include:
Instruction and Delivery:
Teach core ABE subjects, including reading, writing, social studies, science, and math. Utilize a variety of delivery systems, such as self-paced, individualized instruction, cooperative learning, and traditional classroom methods.
Program Management:
Lead the ABE program for learners at the literacy through 8th-grade level and the GED preparation program for those at the 9th through 12th-grade level. Focus on developing fundamental skills and higher-order thinking to prepare students for post-secondary education or training.
Curriculum & Assessment:
Participate in curriculum development, including reviewing program requirements and selecting instructional materials. Evaluate student progress, provide frequent feedback, and assess student needs and goals for appropriate placement and academic advising.
Student Support:
Provide services at the Tohono O'odham Nation Districts, West Campus, and Main Campus. Maintain office hours to assist students, refer them to appropriate college support services, and actively participate in recruitment and retention efforts.
Professionalism:
Maintain student records (attendance, goals, and assessment) and submit required reports. Stay current on subject matter and instructional technology, participating in faculty development activities.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
What You'll Bring:
We are looking for candidates who can effectively communicate, manage multi-level group dynamics, and adapt instruction to meet individual needs.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
A Bachelor's degree in education or a closely related field.
Certifications:
Must be certified or eligible for a State of Arizona Community College Teaching Certificate.
Certifications:
Must possess a GED/ABE State Certificate.
Experience:
At least one year of experience teaching adults.
Licensing:
Possess a valid state Driver's license with a clean driving record.
Other:
Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check and have or be able to obtain a fingerprinting clearance card.
Skills:
Ability to design curriculum, develop lesson plans, instruct adult learners, and integrate the

Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced Degree:
A Master's degree with 24 upper-division credits in Special Education, Education, or a related field.
Language Skills:
The ability to speak and understand O'odham and/or Spanish.
Cultural Competence:
Knowledge and understanding of the history and contemporary issues facing Native people.
Diversity:
Proven ability to work effectively with a multi-culturally diverse group of students and staff.
Work Environment & Schedule:
Schedule:
This is a Time-limited (grant funded) Full-time, Exempt position. Typical work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Flexibility:
The role may require evening and weekend hours to meet instructional needs.
Environment:
Work is performed in an environmental setting that provides protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. It is generally light work, requiring the occasional exertion of up to 20 pounds of force.
