DEFINITION
Under limited supervision, provides educational instruction in assigned area(s) of specialty, grade and program level in compliance with approved academic standards and curriculum for Somerton Elementary School District.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

TASKS:
Work with the Adult Education Director to develop and deliver a course of study based on the Adult Education Standards in the areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking of English as a Second Language for adults who lack English proficiency. Work collaboratively with program staff in student retention and attendance for
ESOL/GED
prep classes. Prepare lesson plans based on Adult Education Standards and conduct classes for adults. Monitor and assess class performance and make appropriate recommendations. Assess and provide additional academic assistance to those students who require it. Participate in required professional development activities and mandatory staff meetings. Available to attend out of town meetings and trainings. Respond to emails in a timely manner.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS REQUIRED
Knowledge of adult education standards, principles, practices and methods. Knowledge of classroom teaching methods and techniques. Knowledge of lesson plan development. Skill in developing appropriate curriculum for adult education and teaching standards. Skill in assessing student participation and advancement. Skill in effective oral and written communication. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Skill in computers.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments. Work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting and/or carrying up to 30 pounds. May be exposed to infectious diseases and body fluid borne pathogens.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree, preferably in Education. Ability to obtain State Board of Education, Adult Education Certification. Ability to work a flexible schedule. Fluency in both Spanish and English is preferred. One (1) year teaching experience in Adult Education preferred. Fingerprint Clearance Card (IVP) required at time of hiring.
