THE POSITION

Under the supervision of the Administrator of Educational Services, the Medical Billing and Coding Instructor provides high-quality Career Technical Education (CTE) instruction to justice-involved youth in secure and alternative education settings, including Juvenile Hall, Youth Guidance Center, and Youth Leadership Academy. The instructor will deliver industry-relevant instruction that prepares students for entry-level opportunities in healthcare administrative fields while fostering a supportive and structured learning environment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Deliver standards-based instruction in medical billing, coding, and healthcare administrative practices
• Teach foundational skills such as medical terminology, insurance processes, coding systems (ICD, CPT), and healthcare documentation
• Adapt instruction to meet the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs of justice-involved youth
• Foster a positive, trauma-informed classroom environment that promotes engagement and student success
• Support students in developing employability skills, including professionalism, communication, and attention to detail
• Collaborate with site staff, administrators, and support services to support student progress
• Monitor and document student progress in alignment with program and compliance requirements
• Ability to work effectively in secure, structured environments

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must successfully pass an extensive background check and clearance process, including fingerprinting and any additional requirements specific to working in juvenile detention and court school settings
• Three years of work experience in the field
• At least one year of the required work experience must be within the last two years
• Possess or be eligible to apply for a Career Technical Education (CTE) Credential.

Teaching Credential:

The successful candidate must qualify for or possess a valid Three-Year Preliminary or Five-Year Clear Designated Subjects Career Technical Education Credential, including English Second Language Certification. Coastline ROP will assist you in starting the credentialing process.
