CUSTODIANBASIC FUNCTION
To perform routine cleaning and custodial functions at assigned school classrooms, buildings and/or other facilities. Employees in this classification receive general supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures. Employees in this job class exercise responsibility for the general cleanliness of assigned areas at a specified school site(s) or facility within the District.REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Performs routine janitorial and custodial functions at assigned site(s)/facility. Cleans classrooms, restrooms, showers, locker rooms, shops, cafeteria, gymnasium, offices, and related facilities. Sweep, mop, scrub, wax, and polish concrete, linoleum, tile and wood floor, door panel, and hand railing and incidental painting when needed Vacuum rugs and carpets. Dust furniture, empty and clean trash receptacle. Clean wall, furniture, window, woodwork, chalk board, desktop, and counter. Clean floors and windows glass and drinking fountains. Checks and refill towels, toilet paper, and soap dispensers. Replaces light globes. Pick up papers and debris; clean walkways and entrances. Operates cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor cleaning and polishing machines, scrubbers, etc. Lock and unlock door and gate to ensure security of building and related areas. Assist in set up and take down of buildings, rooms, and grounds for meetings and special events upon request to include arranging chairs, desks, equipment, etc. Observe/report the need for maintenance repairs and safety/sanitary hazards to appropriate authority. Respond to emergency cleanups such as spills and clogged drains. Direct non-students or other individuals on school grounds during/after school hours to appropriate office/classroom or off campus. Perform other duties similar to the above in scope and function as required.KNOWLEDGE OF
Knowledge of modern cleaning methods, materials, tools, and equipment. Knowledge of the safe use and operation of equipment and chemicals used in janitorial and custodial work.ABILITY TO
Read at a level sufficient to successfully perform required duties. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms. Safely use and apply cleaning agents, equipment, and materials. Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties. Obtain a valid California driver's licenseEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school, including or supplemented by training and preferably two years of similar experience.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
