An Adult Basic Education or Literacy Instructor works with adults, including young adults who are out of school, to improve literacy and strengthen basic skills in reading, writing and math. Helps students to learn English or gain a high school diploma or equivalent certificate. Assesses students' educational levels, skills and goals, and differentiates instruction as needed for adults at different levels in one class. May focus on basic skills as needed for a particular occupation, or assist students with developing study skills or job search skills, or help students connect with social services.

To teach CDP subjects on weekday/weekend schedule
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
Create lesson plans and modify accordingly throughout the year. Read and stay abreast of current topics in education. Utilize various curriculum resources. Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans. Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served. Work with program coordinator to ensure initiatives are being met. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities. Observe and evaluate student\'s performance. Manage student behavior in the classroom.
Minimum Requirements:
Must hold a valid Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) educator certificate with an endorsement in one or more of the following endorsement areas: 106 and English 015, Mathematics 029, History/Social Studies 026 or Science 034 Prior experience working in an environment with adult learners
Preferred Requirements:
Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Haitian Creole highly desirable.
