Required Certification Current State of Connecticut Certification:
Connecticut School Counseling, Social Work or a related field. General Scope of Function The Adult Education Guidance Counselor provides comprehensive support and guidance to adult learners in educational programs. This role involves assessing individual needs, creating personalized education plans, and facilitating access to resources that enhance learning outcomes. Preferred Qualifications Qualifications and Skills
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Education, Social Work, or a related field
Experience:
Previous experience in adult education, counseling, or a related field is highly desirable.
Skills:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to assess individual needs and develop tailored plans Knowledge of adult learning principles and resources Proficient in using educational technology and databases
Personal Attributes:
Empathetic and patient Motivational and supportive Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Individual Assessment:
Conduct intake assessments to determine the educational needs, goals, and barriers of adult learners.
Counseling Services:
Provide one-on-one and group counseling sessions to assist students in overcoming challenges and making informed decisions about their educational pathways.
Educational Planning:
Develop customized education plans that align with students' career goals, interests, and abilities.
Resource Coordination:
Connect students with relevant resources, including tutoring, financial aid, job placement services, and community programs.
Workshops and Seminars:
Organize and facilitate workshops on topics such as study skills, career exploration, and goal setting.
Monitoring Progress:
Track student progress and provide ongoing support and motivation to help them stay on track.
Collaboration:
Work closely with educators, administrators, and community organizations to enhance program offerings and student support services.
Advocacy:
Advocate for the needs and rights of adult learners within the educational system and the community.
Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions and progress. Additional Duties and Responsibilities The person in this position will be responsible for any additional duties and/ or responsibilities as assigned or required by the
Director of Adult Education Physical Activity:
The position will require infrequent lifting, pulling, or pushing during the normal performance of the tasks and responsibilities. Work may require frequent walking and standing.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in the school environment. Counselors will take part in classroom activities as well as working with individual students.
