An Adult Basic Education or Literacy Instructor works with adults, including young adults who are out of school, to improve literacy and strengthen basic skills in reading, writing and math. Helps students to learn English or gain a high school diploma or equivalent certificate. Assesses students' educational levels, skills and goals, and differentiates instruction as needed for adults at different levels in one class. May focus on basic skills as needed for a particular occupation, or assist students with developing study skills or job search skills, or help students connect with social services.

Instructors should have a basic understanding as a SME (Subject Matter Expert). Being able to demonstrate competencies related to the classes is expected. Instructors may be asked to learn new skills or gain new techniques. Most classes are taught on weeknights or weekends, if instructor's schedule allows, day classes are possible. Instructors can work with the program manager to decide which schedules work best. Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This position involves lifting and carrying items weighing approximately 50 pounds, bending, stooping, and may work in all weather conditions. On-site work is essential and regular predictable attendance is required. Employees may be required to work at occasional events and handle tasks outside of regular working hours.
