An Adult Basic Education or Literacy Instructor works with adults, including young adults who are out of school, to improve literacy and strengthen basic skills in reading, writing and math. Helps students to learn English or gain a high school diploma or equivalent certificate. Assesses students' educational levels, skills and goals, and differentiates instruction as needed for adults at different levels in one class. May focus on basic skills as needed for a particular occupation, or assist students with developing study skills or job search skills, or help students connect with social services.

They engage and inspire students, applying innovative teaching and learning pedagogies in instruction. They assess student learning to ensure students success, staying abreast of trends in the discipline. Our instructors collaborate within the College as discipline experts, helping the College reach its strategic goals through active participation in college committees and by promoting the College to future students throughout our community. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities Teach the assigned class in accordance with the learning objectives and Concourse syllabus using instructional strategies to engage students Develop and manage working syllabus, course materials, and assignments Provide feedback and evaluate students' performance throughout the learning process which could involve being available for student conferences either before or after class, and by College email if necessary Maintain and submit class syllabus, grades and attendance records, and required course related data Use educational technology (i.e. course management platform such as Canvas) Assess student learning and submit required reports of assessment results Maintain currency in professional field Work cooperatively within the department, the division, and throughout the College in striving for educational excellence Required Qualifications Course specific minimum qualifications are approved annually by the Board of Trustees and are available in all Academic Division Offices. Demonstrated teaching experience is preferred.
