Position Overview:

We are seeking a resilient, compassionate, and highly skilled Part-Time Contract Technology Instructor to lead engaging training sessions for youth within our secure juvenile justice program. In this role, you will deliver comprehensive instruction on the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access) while introducing modern software development, web design, and networking concepts.

Operating in a fast-paced, non-traditional classroom, you will use trauma-informed practices to help justice-involved and at-risk youth bridge the digital divide. Because this environment utilizes restricted internet access (strictly limited to the designated LMS and Microsoft Office tools), you will creatively utilize local environments and offline resources to teach foundational tech skills. Your expertise will not only build essential workforce skills but also foster self-esteem, digital safety, and future employability for youth preparing for community reentry.

Key Duties & ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Curriculum Delivery Targeted Technical Training:

Design and deliver interactive lessons on Microsoft Office applications, ensuring practical, real-world application for learners with varied educational backgrounds.

Differentiated Learning:

Adapt daily lesson structures to accommodate a rolling enrollment model, short-term stays, and vastly different reading or technical skill levels.

Classroom Management & Safety Trauma-Informed Environment:

Maintain a structured, supportive, and safe classroom atmosphere utilizing positive behavioral interventions and de-escalation strategies.

Security & Compliance:

Strictly adhere to all facility safety protocols, including the strict monitoring of hardware, peripheral devices, and offline/sandboxed student computer networks.

Digital Supervision:

Proactively monitor student activity to ensure appropriate software use, network security, and strict compliance with institutional digital safety rules.

Material Development & Administration Secured Resource Creation:

Develop customized tutorials, physical guides, and assessments aligned with educational standards that function flawlessly within the restricted internet environment.

Progress Tracking:

Utilize the facility's approved, secure Learning Management System (LMS) to maintain detailed, confidential records of attendance, behavioral milestones, and technical achievements.

Collaborative Planning:

Partner with facility caseworkers, security staff, and educational teams to optimize student engagement and support successful transition/reentry plans.

Experience & Qualifications Required Education & Experience Experience:

Minimum of 2+ years of teaching or tutoring experience , with a strong preference for backgrounds in juvenile justice, alternative education, youth advocacy, or residential treatment facilities.

Technical Proficiency:

Microsoft Office applications and a strong foundational understanding of computer networking principles.

Core Competencies & Skills Classroom Control:

Proven capacity to manage high-stress classroom dynamics, establish strong professional boundaries, and connect authentically with diverse, vulnerable youth.

Adaptability:

Exceptional skill in presenting abstract, and rewarding daily projects without relying on live web searches.

Communication:

Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate across distinct facility departments (education, security, and medical/mental health). Special Requirements Must successfully pass a comprehensive criminal background check, fingerprinting, and drug screening required for secure facility clearance. Certification in crisis intervention or de-escalation (e.g., CPI, TCI) is a plus.
