Job Description

Adult ESOL Instructor — Immediate Opening Position Summary CEP is seeking an engaging, compassionate, and adaptable Adult ESOL Instructor to join our team immediately. In this role, you will help adult learners strengthen their English-language skills, build confidence, develop digital literacy, and prepare for educational and employment opportunities. The instructor will teach Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)-funded English for Speakers of Other Languages classes for adult learners across Student Performance Levels (SPL) 1-6. The ideal candidate creates a welcoming, learner-centered environment and enjoys working with students from diverse cultural, educational, and linguistic backgrounds. This is a 28-hour-per-week position, Monday through Thursday. Classes are scheduled within the hours of 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Paid hours include classroom instruction, lesson planning and preparation, student support, documentation, meetings, and other program responsibilities. Some flexibility in scheduling non-instructional hours may be available based on the class schedule, program needs, and successful completion of all responsibilities. Applicants must be available for all assigned instructional hours, including classes that meet until 4:00 p.m. on certain days. Duration of this position is through the end of the 2026-2027 school year with option to renew based on performance and funding. Key Responsibilities Plan and deliver engaging ESOL instruction aligned with Massachusetts DESE standards and curriculum frameworks Provide learner-centered instruction to adult learners across SPL 1-6 Teach classes that include both in-person and remote student participation Adapt lessons and instructional materials to meet a range of English-proficiency levels, educational backgrounds, and learning needs Incorporate computer literacy, basic math, workforce readiness, and practical life skills into ESOL instruction Create an inclusive, supportive, and culturally responsive learning environment Use a variety of instructional methods, technology tools, and learning resources to encourage active participation Help students establish goals and monitor their educational progress Provide individualized support and tutoring when needed Use learning management systems and virtual teaching tools effectively Administer and document student assessments as required Maintain accurate attendance, progress, and program records Participate in ongoing professional development through the System for Adult Basic Education Support (SABES), as well as staff meetings, curriculum planning, and continuous program improvement Collaborate effectively with program staff, instructors, and community partners Required Qualifications Candidates should meet one of the following qualification pathways: Master's degree and at least two years of experience teaching Adult Basic Education (ABE) or ESOL; or Bachelor's degree, TESOL certificate, and experience teaching adult learners Candidates must also demonstrate: Strong written, interpersonal, organizational, and technology skills The ability to teach a learner-centered ESOL curriculum incorporating digital literacy, basic math, and essential job-readiness skills The ability to work effectively and flexibly with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff A commitment to student success, professional growth, and program development Preferred Qualifications Experience administering standardized assessments, including BEST Plus and/or
TABE CLAS-E
