WEST ABE
is a consortium of educational sites within school districts and four county jails to help adults acquire basic skills. Monticello is the fiscal agent. This position provides direct instruction to adults in an Adult EL program, Mondays and Fridays in Monticello, from 1:45 PM- 3:15 PM, including one hour of prep per class. Up to 40 paid professional development hours are available annually. Responsibilities will include providing direct instruction to adult students who are working to improve their English skills. The course is designed for English Learners (ELs) seeking to maintain or advance employment in the workplace. Students will develop essential workplace vocabulary and communication skills needed to follow safety protocols, understand chemical labels, and interact effectively with supervisors and team members. The curriculum focuses on practical job skills while improving English proficiency in a professional context. Position also includes student assessment, returning student phone calls, monitoring student attendance, completing necessary student record keeping, and other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications:
Valid MN teaching license for teaching English as a Second Language, or the following: a person who possesses a bachelor's or master's degree in English as a second language, applied linguistics, or bilingual education. Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to be flexible and function well in a busy environment. Ability to work as a team member. Computer experience and comfort with Internet, email, and Google apps required. Must be physically working in the building/onsite.
Starting Hourly Wage:
$28.88 per hour

Certification and Experience:
Current MN Teaching License required Previous experience teaching within an adult basic education program, experience providing online instruction, and working with diverse populations, preferred.
Essential Skills Required:
