An Adult Basic Education or Literacy Instructor works with adults, including young adults who are out of school, to improve literacy and strengthen basic skills in reading, writing and math. Helps students to learn English or gain a high school diploma or equivalent certificate. Assesses students' educational levels, skills and goals, and differentiates instruction as needed for adults at different levels in one class. The Adult Education and Literacy Department at St. Charles Community College is seeking a part-time, Project-Based AEL Instructor. The instructor will be responsible for preparing for, instructing, and managing a class of adult learners studying math, language, and other subjects at different ability levels. Students may be adults learning the English language and/or studying to pass their high school equivalency exam. Candidate should have strong math skills and confidence in teaching reading/language arts, workforce concepts, and employability skills to students.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Instructs adult learners in the areas of reading, writing, and math Works cooperatively with other agencies to prepare appropriate students for transition to post-secondary education or workforce training. Plans and conducts group instructional activities to begin and end at posted class times. Prepares materials for volunteers and provides homework for students Plans individual, small group, and large group instructional activities based on individual student needs. Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree. Adult Education and Literacy certification required; this certification can be provided by SCC for the right candidate.
