An Adult Basic Education or Literacy Instructor works with adults, including young adults who are out of school, to improve literacy and strengthen basic skills in reading, writing and math. Helps students to learn English or gain a high school diploma or equivalent certificate. Assesses students' educational levels, skills and goals, and differentiates instruction as needed for adults at different levels in one class. May focus on basic skills as needed for a particular occupation, or assist students with developing study skills or job search skills, or help students connect with social services.

Job Description

SUMMARY:
The Adult Education Academic Assistant has the general responsibility of serving as a point of contact with all students entering the campus office and assisting the Adult Education Director and instructors in the smooth operation of the program inclusive of intake, data entry, and student referrals.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Greets and directs all students and visitors entering the building. 2. Assists with student enrollment, intake, and assessment as needed. 3. Understands and uses the OAE data management system. 4. Answers phone, takes messages, and directs calls. 5. Assists Instructors in maintaining student folders and records of student progress. 6. Works as an effective member of the AE team to ensure the success of all students. 7. Maintains documents and reports. 8. Assists with making copies and other duties of a clerical nature for the Director. 9. Conducts student follow-up to promote retention. 10. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma/ High School Equivalence Two (2) years of office work experience
PREFERED JOB REQUIREMENTS
Associate in Arts or Associate in Appliance Science Degree Three (3) or more full-time years of experience as an office secretary Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products; Bookkeeping experience.

ENVIRONMENT AND DEMANDS
The work environment is an office setting with moderate noise. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
