ABE HSE Instructor
P/T 9/2/2026
Fifth Avenue Committee Inc. (FAC), is a nationally recognized South Brooklyn based, non-profit comprehensive community development corporation formed in 1978 whose mission is to advance economic, social, and racial justice in New York City through integrated, community-centered affordable housing, grassroots organizing and policy advocacy, and transformative education, training and services that build the power to shape our community's future. FAC works to transform the lives of over 7,500 low- and moderate-income New Yorkers annually so that we can all live and work with dignity and respect while making our community more equitable, sustainable, inclusive, and just. FAC's Adult Education and Literacy unit serves approximately 1000 adult students per year through ESOL/ELA, ABE, HSE/GED, Digital Literacy and Bridge Programming with access to wrap around services and supports to improve educational and employment outcomes for our students. Integrated into all FAC's Adult Education programming are case management, career navigation, digital skilling, device lending, financial literacy, civics education and advocacy opportunities aimed to ensure our participants have the skills and resources necessary to fully participate in society and have the opportunity to become leaders in their communities.

Responsibilities:
Instructor will work with the Adult Education Leadership to develop curriculum that is level appropriate and includes specific goals for individual student growth in a student-centered environment.
The Instructor will enable students to read, write and problem solve at a level sufficient to pass the GED exam.
The Instructor will work with students to set goals for further academic studies, job training, employment or post-secondary education.
The Instructor will maintain and update all student records, including attendance, personal information, education background and employment history, periodically update test records, employment and education goals.
The Instructor will take part in a minimum of 14 hours of staff development annually with approved providers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in related field and 2 years working with Adult Learners preferably in a community-based organization setting.
- Comfortable teaching all levels of high school Math, ELA , Social Studies and Science including advanced topics in algebra and geometry.
- Familiar with CASAS test administration (or similar standardized test) and the GED testing process.
- Able to incorporate technology and test taking strategies into lesson planning.
- Confident managing a classroom
- Excellent communication skills.

- Compensation
- $37 to $40 per hour
