Hybrid Sewing Instructor (Adult + Youth Programs) About Us Butcher's Sew Shop is a creative sewing studio in Philadelphia dedicated to helping people of all ages discover the joy of making their own clothing and handmade goods. We believe sewing should be approachable, empowering, and fun, whether it's someone's very first project or their tenth handmade garment. Our adult program offers beginner through intermediate garment sewing classes, specialty workshops, and technique-based courses. Our youth program introduces children ages 5-11 to sewing through after-school classes, Saturday programs, vacation camps, and summer camps in a supportive, creativity-focused environment. Our Studio Offers Creative, inspiring workspace Relaxed and collaborative atmosphere Casual dress code Inclusive, welcoming community Detailed curricula and lesson plans provided Opportunities to teach both children and adults About the Position We're looking for an enthusiastic sewing instructor who loves both garment sewing and teaching. This hybrid role combines our youth and adult programs, making it perfect for someone who enjoys working with a variety of ages throughout the week. You'll teach beginner and intermediate adult classes in the evenings and weekends while also helping lead our after-school and Saturday youth programs. No lesson planning is required—our programs follow well-developed curricula that allow instructors to focus on teaching, mentoring, and creating an exceptional classroom experience. Adult Teaching Responsibilities Teach beginner and intermediate sewing classes using our existing curriculum Classes may include: Sewing 101 Sewing 201 (Tops & Dresses, Pants, Jackets) Sewing with Knits Specialty workshops Guide students through garment construction and sewing techniques Foster a welcoming, encouraging classroom environment Youth Teaching Responsibilities Assist with and lead sewing classes for children ages 5-11 Pick up a small group of students from a nearby school and walk them safely back to the studio (approximately 2 miles roundtrip) Follow our established project plans and lesson outlines Encourage creativity, independence, and confidence Ensure student safety and engagement throughout class Qualifications We're looking for someone who: Has intermediate to advanced garment sewing experience Is comfortable sewing a variety of garments and fabrics Enjoys teaching and working with both adults and children Is patient, encouraging, and enthusiastic Is reliable and professional Can comfortably walk approximately 2 miles roundtrip while supervising children Teaching experience is highly preferred but not required for the right candidate.
