$73.35 per hour Type of class/program: Hybrid / Worker Education Program Description The Worker Education program at the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU), in partnership with the Consortium for Worker Education (CWE), provides free college preparation courses in English and Academic ESOL•English for Speakers of Other Languages for adults aged 21 and over who have a high school diploma or equivalent and live or work in New York City. The program serves as a bridge to college degree programs, equipping adult learners with the skills needed to pursue higher education. We are currently seeking a part-time College Prep Instructor/Coordinator who will teach 8 hours per week in the evening and dedicate 10 hours per week to non-teaching duties including tutoring, program coordination and recruitment. The College Prep Instructor/Coordinator reports to the Director of Worker Education and is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in English reading and writing, including the Academic ESOL Bridge to College course. The role also includes program coordination, student recruitment, and assessment. Responsibilities involve developing and maintaining curriculum, supporting outreach and recruitment, and building partnerships with community-based organizations (CBOs) and CUNY GED and ESL programs to promote the college prep program. Instructional Duties Deliver synchronous online instruction in pre-college English composition, reading, and advanced ESOL Develop, implement, and maintain curriculum, including lesson plans, PowerPoint presentations, discussion boards, reading and writing assignments, assessments, and instructional materials in the CUNY Learning Management System (LMS) Brightspace Prepare online exams and quizzes using Microsoft Forms Evaluate student performance through written assignments, quizzes, and other assessment methods Conduct midterm evaluations and prepare written feedback to students and meet individually with them. Provide timely, substantive feedback to support student learning and progression toward college readiness Foster student participation and engagement through discussions, activities, and structured interaction Provide basic technical support to students (e.g., login, navigation, assignment submission) Non-Teaching Program Coordination & Administrative Duties Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance assessments in Microsoft Excel for program and CWE records Set up and manage Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other virtual classroom tools for instruction, tutoring, information sessions, and meetings Download and maintain Zoom reports for CWE records Coordinate and schedule classes, tutoring sessions, information sessions Conduct individual or group tutoring sessions and information sessions Assist with student recruitment and outreach activities, including arranging and conducting meetings, information sessions and attending community events to promote the program, Provide basic technical support to students (e.g., login, navigation, assignment submission) Maintaining relationships with other CUNY programs and community organizations for the purpose of promoting the College Prep program. Meet regularly with the supervisor for update meeting and attend required team meetings at SLU and CWE Serve as program liaison with CWE and complete and submit all required reports, data documentation, and compliance tasks in a timely manner Adhere to institutional policies, procedures, and standards related to academic integrity and student conduct Requirements and Technical Skills Master's degree in English, TESOL, ESL, or a related field Minimum of 5 years of experience teaching college English composition and/or advanced ESL (experience with adult learners preferred) Experience teaching online courses Experience teaching Academic ESOL or college transition/bridge programs Proficiency in one of the Learning Management Systems such as Google Classroom or Blackboard and willing to learn The current CUNY LMS, Brightspace Strong ability to design and manage online assessments (quizzes, tests, writing assignments, rubrics) Strong technical skills using Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or similar virtual platforms Ability to create multimedia instructional content (e.g., recorded lectures, presentations) Ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues and support online learners Knowledge of accessible (ADA-compliant) instruction and best practices in adult education Excellent communication, organization, and classroom management skills Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities Reliable, high-speed internet access Commitment to adult learner success, equity, and college readiness Working Conditions This position is an instructor and coordinator role. A dedicated schedule will be implemented for teaching hours and Program Administration/Coordination duties.
