Job Description

Blue Hills Adult Education is seeking a Part-Time Evening Remote ESOL Instructor to provide online English instruction in alignment with our ESOL Curriculum and Massachusetts English Language Proficiency Standards (MA ELPS).
JOB DESCRIPTION
Deliver engaging online instruction and facilitate discussions using best practices for remote education. Respond promptly to student inquiries and comments in online forums. Develop and submit weekly lesson plans based on the BHAE lesson plan template, reflecting unit instructional goals. Employ instructional strategies that uphold high expectations, engage adult learners, and honor their diverse backgrounds and learning styles. Utilize a mix of formal and informal assessment methods to gauge student learning and tailor instruction accordingly. Attend monthly staff and common planning meetings to collaborate and share insights with colleagues.

Google Meet Teaching Schedule:
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00-9:00 PM (6 instructional hours per week)
Weekly Hours:
15 hours per week, including 6 hours of live online instruction and approximately 9 hours for lesson planning, preparation, student communication, and related instructional responsibilities.
Program Calendar:
September 1, 2026 - June 30, 2027, including 32 instructional weeks and 2 paid staff weeks.
Professional Development:
26 paid hours annually.
Hourly Rate:
$37.47 per hour.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred. Massachusetts ABE licensure preferred. Experience teaching adults is preferred. Familiarity with second language acquisition theories and adult learning principles Strong organizational skills and ability to manage online instruction effectively. Proficiency with Google Workspace and other instructional technology. Ability to build positive relationships with adult learners from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
