Job Description

Counselor & Program Director Division:
Health and Human Services Administration Department:
New Hope Healing Grounds
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for providing the counselors' assistance with developing and teaching educational sessions for New Hope, Healing Grounds residents/outpatients identified as having chemical dependency issues.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING
Must be able to develop educational lesson plans for resident and/or outpatient classes. Must be able to do research on topics related to chemical dependency, i.e. Alcohol and Drugs, Anger Management, Social and Coping Skills, and Relapse Prevention or other topics and do presentations on these topics. Must identify and show appropriate educational films, monitor classes, and facilitate discussions. Must make sure class participants sign attendance rosters and turn in roster to case manager. Must communicate with counselors and program director regarding participants' behaviors in class for evaluation. Must be prepared for daily classes or have material ready for substitute presenter. Must have cultural awareness and sensitivity of Kickapoo traditions, religious beliefs and way of life. Ability to facilitate or co-facilitate educational groups when needed. Maintains a professional attitude and works in an ethical manner in all aspects of the job. Transport clients to NA meeting out town meeting. Must be able to develop NA meeting. Must be on call as required and assigned in case 24/7 for transporting Tribal members to out-town meetings or transport clients to treatment centers. Will be requiring to work Saturday and once a month Sunday for events related to NA meeting on as assigned by the program. Perform other work-related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES FOR THE POSITION
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal directions from counselors or Program Director. Ability to proficiently operate a personal computer, calculator, copy, and fax machine, laptop, and audio-visual equipment. Ability to perform simple arithmetic for time-keeping and attendance records. Ability to verbally communicate effectively in English and Spanish and present educational material in both languages. Ability to use Microsoft Office programs and develop power point presentations. Ability to pay attention to detail and accuracy and be organized and prepared to teach topics. Ability to maintain classroom order and confidentiality of classroom discussions.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This position does carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED. Preferred some college in psychology, sociology, or work experience with chemical dependency. Public speaking experiences in a classroom setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous work-related experience is preferred.
