EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
: Bachelor's Degree One year related experience and/or training High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education agency.
PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY
: Conducts appropriate level of instruction for adult students in the areas of English as a Second Language (ESL), as outlined by the Texas Adult Education Content Standards and Benchmarks
  • Includes HSE preparation, work readiness skills, and life skills.
The position may be day or evening shift, or both. Attendance is required at all regularly scheduled staff meetings and training events .
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Responsibilities include implementation of ESL instruction for adult students. 2. Conducts instruction as specified in Adult Education (AE) Program Curriculum Guide and Handbook. 3. Maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning. 4. Meets and instructs classes as designated, in person or using an online teaching platform. 5. Prepares for all classes as assigned with daily lesson plans in accordance with Texas Adult Education Content Standards and Benchmarks and shows evidence of preparation upon request. 6. Maintains accurate, complete and up-to-date records. 7. Administers and evaluates Texas Adult Basic Education (TABE) assessment tests and complies with performance standards mandated by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). 8. Presents material in core areas of science, math, language, reading and social studies in an engaging and effective manner to facilitate student success with ESL post testing. 9. Submits attendance, lesson plans and other paperwork required by TWC by deadlines outlined in AE yearly calendar and policy handbook. 10. Conducts oneself in a professional and ethical manner in accordance with generally accepted community standards, District policies and TWC Code of Ethics. 11. Attends staff meetings, in-service orientations, and completes all professional development as required by TWC. 12. Maintains contact with current research and practice. 13. Maintains confidentiality of information. 14. Occasionally required to drive personal vehicle in the performance of assigned tasks. 15. Reports to work on time every day. 16. Performs other duties and accepts other responsibilities as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Knowledge of adult student characteristics and special learning needs
  • Possess excellent command of English language both verbal and written
  • Proficient with personal computer programs (Windows, Microsoft Word, Access, Power Point, etc.)
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Ability to motivate and encourage adult learners
  • Ability to communicate effectively
