GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
The Ag Teacher will provide guidance and instructional experiences that are academically and developmentally appropriate for each student assigned to that ag classroom. Key duties include delivering curriculum on animal/plant science, ag mechanics, or agribusiness while guiding supervised agricultural experiences.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree. Current New Mexico secondary vocational technical (7-12) teaching license or secondary 6-12 license with agriculture endorsement as required. Ability to perform essential job functions and job task requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrates knowledge of the content area and approved curriculum. Utilizes a variety of teaching methods and resources for each area taught. Communicates with and obtains feedback from students in a manner that enhances student learning and understanding. Comprehends the principles of student growth, development, and learning, and applies them appropriately. Utilizes student assessment techniques and procedures. Manages the educational setting in a manner that promotes positive student behavior and a safe and healthy environment. Recognizes student diversity and creates an atmosphere conducive to the promotion of positive student involvement and self-concept. Demonstrates a willingness to examine and implement change, as appropriate. Works productively with colleagues, parents, and community members. Follows board policies and administrative rules and regulations. Provides for the direct supervision of students at all times.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Communicates accurate and up to date information to students in a way that enhances student learning, and includes demonstrating effective writing skills and use of standard English. Manages time appropriately. Cooperates with administration, parents, and co-workers. Creates a positive atmosphere and arranges the physical environment of the classroom for optimum learning. Demonstrates concern for students well being and positive esteem. Prepares for instruction and shows written evidence of preparation. Take precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities. Maintains accurate and complete records as required by the school district, and reports progress or lack thereof to parents in a timely manner. Attends and participates in faculty meetings. Completes duties (hall, bus, etc.) as assigned. Leaves adequate preparations for a substitute. Develops and implements appropriate classroom management strategies while maintaining high expectations for student behavior. Encourages cooperation between students. Maintains student involvement in appropriate tasks. Uses and applies appropriate conflict resolution skills. Demonstrates public relations skills. Uses appropriate techniques, strategies, and materials to achieve the desired instructional goal. Adapts the curriculum to meet the needs of individual students. Uses current technology for instruction, and management purposes. Uses diagnostic data to improve instructional programs. Selects, uses, and interprets evaluation data. Available to parents, students, administration, and peers outside of the school day, if needed. Attends extra curricular activities. Spends time beyond the school day grading and recording papers, and planning instruction. Reports suspected child abuse and neglect. Responsible for students on field trips. Acts as a good role model within the context of the school. Supervises educational assistants, practicum students, student teachers, and high school vocational lab students, as required. Develops and uses community and professional resources. Understands and applies learning theories. Accepts other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
