Description Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) seeks to develop applicant pools for adjunct faculty to teach course offerings throughout the 2026-2027 academic year . WWCC offers opportunities for adjunct faculty to teach courses at all of our campuses: Walla Walla, Clarkston, Washington State Penitentiary, Coyote Ridge Corrections Center, as well as online/remotely. Part-time/temporary adjunct faculty positions offer flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. WWCC offers a wide range of opportunities in extended learning, dual-credit alternative high school, workplace learning, outreach learning, and personal enrichment programs. WWCC accepts applications for adjunct faculty positions on a continuous basis, though it does not necessarily imply that there are immediate openings. Applicants who meet the required minimum qualifications and submit a complete application with all required components will become part of the standing pool which the College will draw on as scheduling needs dictate. Qualified candidates are encouraged to submit materials at any time. ABE/GED/HS+/ELA

Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Corrections Education program located at the Coyote Ridge Corrections Center in Connell, Washington.

General Responsibilities:

Faculty members are professional educators with the primary responsibility of providing a quality education for all WWCC students. The relationship of the faculty member to the student is one of teacher, mentor, and facilitator of learning. This position reports to the Director of Adult Basic Education at Coyote Ridge Corrections Center (CRCC) and will be responsible for teaching classes to offenders housed at CRCC. Successful candidates will teach assigned classes, prepare teaching materials, assign grades, maintain records, and consult with students as required by the instructional division. This position is filled to fulfill a contract awarded to Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) by the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (WSBCTC) to operate a correctional education program at Coyote Ridge Corrections Center in accordance with an interagency agreement with the Department of Corrections. Walla Walla Community College and its employees working in a correctional education program are expected to follow all Department of Corrections (DOC) Policies, IT and other Security requirements, follow DOC Operational Memorandums, and comply with the Superintendent's directions.

Essential Responsibilities:

Teach

ABE, GED, ELA

(English Language Acquisition) and/or HS+ classes utilizing both lecture and laboratory modes of instruction. Participate in curriculum revision, program management, and research related activities. Interview and place prospective students into the program. Maintain assessment records and student progress accountability measures on all students enrolled in the assigned course sections. Track, maintain, and assign grades. Ensure that classroom/lab and equipment are in excellent condition and maintained. Participate in meetings and trainings as required by WWCC and DOC. Competencies Ability to interact with those in custody and/or the public according to expected guidelines; treat people with dignity and respect. Ability to effectively combine an array of methods to enhance understanding, including demonstrations, lectures, group discussions and activities, individual activities, etc. Understand which teaching methods best serve the student's needs, interests, and ability to learn. Ability to recognize the value of cultural, ethnic, gender and other individual differences in people. Ability to build constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation and mutual respect. Ability to develop accurate standards to measure learning or administer testing or other evaluations to determine effectiveness and ensure a high level of comprehension has been achieved.

Required Qualifications :

Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the discretion of the college. For remote work, applicants must reside in either WA, OR, ID, CA, IL, PA, or TX. Bachelor's degree in an academic subject area required; master's degree desired. Experience teaching in a correctional facility desired. Experience as an instructional trainer/teacher at the secondary or post-secondary level, correctional, industrial, corporate, and/or workplace setting desired. Conditions/Terms of Employment This is a part-time instruction assignment contingent on enrollment and located inside the Coyote Ridge Corrections Center, an adult male prison. This position interacts daily with students (incarcerated individuals), instructors, counselors, DOC, and WWCC staff. Successful candidate must have the ability to travel between buildings with or without accommodations. CRCC is fully ADA compliant. The campus is tobacco free institution. Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful employment to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment and provide transcripts.
