Job Description

Digital Programs Assistant, Harvard University (Cambridge) Archives and Special Collections, a subset of the Harvard Library, is seeking a motivated assistant to join our Technical Services team. ASC is home to the world-famous and the almost entirely unknown, the ancient and the contemporary, the enduring and the ephemeral. Student yearbooks, faculty papers, theses and dissertations, papyrus fragments, Civil War board games, Black Panther posters, medieval books of hours, and theatrical costume designs all share room on our shelves. The Digital Programs Unit in Technical Services is responsible for programmatic and on-demand digitization of ASC's collections. Working closely with the Digitization Coordinator, the Digital Programs Assistant will fulfill patron requests processed through Imaging Services and support ongoing digitization projects. DUTIES
  • Generates invoices for publication-quality image requests and delivers paid orders to Imaging Services.
  • Creates metadata for on-demand and project workflows.
  • Links digital objects in Alma and ArchivesSpace.
  • Assists with existing digitization projects by compiling batch forms, reviewing and organizing collection materials, preparing items for imaging, and tracking the location of items throughout the digitization process.
  • Reviews and updates the photoduplication queues.
  • Pages and reshelves material in the stacks and processes incoming and outgoing material from off-site.
  • Serves a shift in the Archives and Special Collections reading room.
  • Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required
  • Aptitude for detail, accuracy, and efficiency; good organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with patrons and staff members verbally and through email.
  • Proficient with basic computer and scanning software.
  • Ability to navigate the online catalog (HOLLIS) and various finding aids to aid in the identification of material. Preferred
  • Strong interest in a career in archives and/or special collections work.
  • Completion of courses in archives and special collections and/or cultural heritage.
  • Training in handling and digitization of cultural heritage material.
  • Prior library experience.
